With the 1st Quarter national Open aptly called new dawn drawing near and along with it the Wrestling Association of theĀ Philippines is debuting other forms of Wrestling recognized by the United World Wrestling. For this feature we are going to tackle Alish Belt Wrestling.
Belt Wrestling is one of the oldest form of Wrestling. You might be surprised to know that Philippines has a form of Wrestling called Bultong.
Now with United World Wrestling recognizing belt Wrestling as a widely practiced form of Wrestling, the Wrestling Association of the Philippines will be nurturing talents as Belt Wrestling is part of the UWW competition calendar.
For the rules here is an excerpt from the UWW Alysh rule book which summarizes how the game is played:
“Classic and Freestyle basically differ as follows: In Classic, it is strictly forbidden to grasp the opponent below the belt line, or to trip him or to use the legs actively on his opponent to perform any action, with the exception of the use of a bend leg (spring hip throw), when the opponent is in the air. In Freestyle, however, it is permissible to grasp the legs of the opponent, to trip him/her and to use the legs actively to perform any action.”
